Poker strategy tip of the dayHow to play against a Tight/Aggressive player in a tournament.Of all the types of players that you’ll face in tournament play, the consistent and skilled tight/aggressive players will demand you to bend and flex and potentially ride the stack roller coaster before you will eventually and hopefully defeat them. They are often some of the most talented poker players in a tournament, and love to make their opponents pay for the smallest mistake. They are the most difficult to beat, especially at a table with several of them, and to beat them, it will take your best all-around poker game to beat them. So, let’s get started. Tight/Aggressive players are just as their profile suggests. They are tight in that they don’t play many hands, but when they do, the will try and toss a saddle on your back and ride you to the river! You don’t want to get caught in their path, because they are attempting to do one thing, and that’s make you pay for it in large amounts. The best approach to a Tight/Aggressive player is to avoid them for as long as you possibly can, and build a nice stack. However, you’ll eventually need to face them, and when you do, don’t do them any favors by being unconfident. They can and will be beaten, and you might as well be the one to do it. Chip away at them, and take what you can. If their blinds are on the table, go after them if you’ve got the goods to do it. When you have a good hand, you need to play to your own level of aggressiveness, and don’t expect them to stay in very long unless they feel they have the best hand. In the event that you are going head to head, and you have both decided to bet, raise, and re-raise, you better be working on the nuts. Anyone they can drag along with them for as long as they can, they will most certainly do it. If you can catch them in a hand where you’ve hit a nut hand on the flop and they are willing to keep charging, you have to blast them on what they will consider a bad beat. At this point, you will slide into the advantage seat and will want to continue your own version of tight/aggressive play. There’s no need to be married to a style of play. Of course, most play with what works best and offers them the best result, but consider being able to mix it up. To use a sports analogy: In basketball, the most dangerous player is a person who can shoot from outside and penetrate to the bucket at will. In poker it’s similar in that you can take your shots, but when you go to the hole, you want the dunk! Against a tight/aggressive player, you just want to stay away from his/her game. They want to look for the drive to the bucket, and when given the opportunity, they’re going to take it. You need to do a little of both. Stealing the blinds, going big on the nuts, and bluffing early to see what you can take. It’ll take some hands on experience, but you’ll get there. Good luck! Playtech's CEO Avigur Zmora is hopeful that its new deal with Party Poker will lead to more deals.
As reported:
PartyGaming Plc., which owns PartyPoker.com, recently acquired several new poker and online casino sites which run on Playtech's software. Earlier this week, the two companies signed an agreement for those sites to remain on Playtech's software.
The four-year deal establishes a relationship between the two companies, which Zmore hopes will smooth the way for future deals.
One area that Playtech could help PartyGaming out with is its Asian business. Both have already stated they're looking towards Asia now that the U.S. is creating tighter restrictions on online gambling.
Playtech already launched Mahjong and Pachinko in Asia in December, and PartyGaming could benefit from already established software geared toward Asian communities.

LONDON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Britain's PartyGaming (PRTY.L) said on Thursday its daily online poker revenues had recovered to $721,000 after falling to a daily low of around $637,000 after the United States banned Internet gambling in October.
PartyGaming said that excluding sports betting, overall daily revenue in the four weeks to Dec. 11 averaged approximately $921,000.
VIENNA, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Austrian Internet betting firm bwin.com (BWIN.VI) missed third-quarter forecasts, slashed its full-year outlook and announced a bumper writoff on Thursday after a ban on its U.S. operations undid its business model.
Bwin said it expected to write off most of the value of a U.S. poker website it acquired for more than 500 million euros ($639 million) earlier this year. It chucked out its costly growth plans in response, saying it would now focus on profits.
"The precise amount of the writeoff will be agreed with our auditors, but it will be around 500 million euros," Chief Executive Norbert Teufelberger said in a broadcast speech.
"We have decided to drastically change the aggressive, growth-oriented strategy focused on regional expansion," he said. "The focus is now to optimise margins and cashflow."
Shares in bwin.com Interactive Entertainment dropped as much as 10 percent on the news, but pared some losses, trading 3.7 percent lower at 13.90 euros by 1010 GMT. The stock has dropped 83 percent so far this year. The writeoff will wipe out around 90 percent of shareholders' equity at bwin, which had just propped it up by selling 270 million euros worth of new shares at 95 euros each in March to fund the acquisition of the U.S. poker site.
Bwin and peers including PartyGaming (PRTY.L: ) and 888 Plc (888.L:) are struggling with increasingly restrictive regulation in the United States and Europe, where governments are curbing Internet gambling to protect customers and state-run lotteries.
